Poetry: Selections From John Yamrus
ya gotta love it...
i was
rejected
this morning
by a magazine about
The Beats and Beat Life.
it was
a nice enough rejection...
even kind.
but,
what they said was:
my poems weren’t a good fit.
think
about it:
in a
magazine
about The Beats,
my poems didn’t conform...
not
to their rules
and not
to their style.
if you ask me,
old Jack would have
poured himself a shot and smiled.
she
came
from nowhere
and
went back
to the same place.
in between,
there was that one summer...
the one
he hoped would never end.
he loved
spending
time with her...
especially
when she’d decide
to shut up for a minute.
he
didn’t know
what he liked more...
her or the silence.
“you’re lucky”, she said.
he
rolled
on his side
and said half
to the pillow and half to the wall:
“luck’s nothing to be proud of.”
it was
one of those days
when the wind seemed to be talking
and
the sun
hid behind a cloud.
